A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR

I was in my office signing letters after an exceptionally long and taxing day. I wasn’t doing anything particularly “spiritual.” I was just carrying out a simple, mundane task.

As I left my office, I was suddenly overwhelmed by a strong presence of the Lord. The next thing I remember was being on my hands and knees with my head under a chair, weeping as though I was heartbroken with God asking me these questions.

“Why do you do what you do?” His voice thundered in my consciousness. “Why do you conduct services? Why do you sing songs? Why do you have a youth program, or a children’s church, or a nursery?” I knew that God never asks a question to which He does not already know the answer. I wept and waited.

After some time, He gently spoke these words: “The apex of all Christian endeavor must become to place the jewel of a soul in the crown of our Savior, that the Lamb of God slain may receive the reward of His suffering.”

"Must become," He said. Because the apex of Christian endeavor is not already that in our world today. Many right now - even in the Church - are far from where God longs for them to be. Apart from Him, we are lost. Without His love, His Spirit, His authority, there is no hope!

That is why I firmly believe WE MUST HAVE REVIVAL!

We need it our every day lives, and in the everyday-ness of our lives! We need it in our loveless homes. And oh, how we need it in our powderdry and dusty, ritualistic and religious, cookie-cutter churches!

Only the rain of revival in all three of those domains holds true hope for transforming our churches, communities, and ultimately our hell-bound culture.

I’ve experienced revival. Not a slick, well-produced weeklong show designed to draw a crowd with marquee names and flashy concerts of entertainment. No, real revival. I know how it looks. How it sounds. How it feels. Even how it smells. I’ve felt that life-giving rain upon my face. I’ve seen dry, lifeless churches and hopeless lives bloom with the vibrancy of heaven overnight, exploding with the eternal fruit of lost and lonely, dying and destitute souls coming to the tree of life—the curse-breaking, soul-cleansing, life-giving cross of Calvary’s crucified Christ.

Salvations. Miracles. Healings. Deliverances. Restorations. Radical transformation of entire cities and regions with shock waves sent throughout the nation! These are the firstfruits of a mighty revival. We can experience all of that and much, much more, but only if...
